At Christmas time it has been my habit to write a column in remembrance of the many innocent people in prisons whose lives have been stolen by the US criminal justice (sic) system that is as inhumane as it is indifferent to justice. Usually I retell the cases of William Strong and Christophe Gaynor, two men framed in the state of Virginia by prosecutors and judges as wicked and corrupt as any who served Hitler or Stalin.

This year is different. All Americans are now imprisoned in a world of lies and deception created by the Bush Regime and the two complicit parties of Congress, by federal judges too timid or ignorant to recognize a rogue regime running roughshod over the Constitution, by a bought and paid for media that serves as propagandists for a regime of war criminals, and by a public who have forsaken their Founding Fathers.

Americans are also imprisoned by fear, a false fear created by the hoax of "terrorism." It has turned out that headline terrorist events since 9/11 have been orchestrated by the US government. For example, the alleged terrorist plot to blow up Chicago's Sears Tower was the brainchild of a FBI agent who searched out a few disaffected people to give lip service to the plot devised by the FBI agent. He arrested his victims, whose trial ended in acquittal and mistrial.

Many Europeans regard 9/11 itself as an orchestrated event. Former cabinet members of the British, Canadian and German governments and the Chief of Staff of the Russian Army have publicly expressed their doubts about the official 9/11 story. Recently, a former president of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, said in an interview with the newspaper, Corriere della Sera (November 30, 2007), that "democratic elements in America and Europe, with the Italian center-left in the forefront, now know that the 9/11 attack was planned and executed by the American CIA and Mossad in order to blame the Arab countries, and to persuade the Western powers to undertake military action both in Iraq and Afghanistan."

The year that was: Things were bad in Gaza in 2007. We have been deprived, isolated and ignored in a hostile territory where anything goes December 28, 2007 How have things in Gaza changed over the past 12 months? Sadly, there are no rosy reflections to be found here. Things were bad in Gaza this year. Very bad. Whether looked at from a political or purely humanitarian perspective, it's difficult to see the upside where there is such an orchestrated global drive to maintain the status quo: smother until surrender. The health indicators are telling: about a quarter of essential drugs and a third of essential medical supplies were unavailable in the Gaza Strip in October 2007. Less than half of Gaza's food import needs are currently being met. Fuel reserves are almost at zero after punitive cuts by the Israeli government began last month. And with diesel-run water-pumps unable to function, tens of thousands of Gazans are without access to fresh drinking water. Everything considered "non-essential" has disappeared from supermarket shelves (including chocolates, as one friend half-jokingly lamented). It is as though depriving a nation of medicines and fuel and freedom of movement and sanity will somehow make them turn against their rulers. And as though providing them with a trickle of "essential" supplies every few weeks is going to exonerate those imposing and supporting the siege. Or sustain the besieged just enough so that they don't wither and die; because somehow, the onus is on them to undo all of this, and they need all the energy they can get. Gaza's isolation has also come full circle this year. Travelling in and out of the occupied coastal territory has always been an exercise in the impossible, but now, it's no longer an option that can even be exercised, in whatever degree of difficulty. We Gazans stuck on the outside cannot return to our homes. The noose continues to tighten, even when we thought there was no more room to tighten it. I was in Gaza through June. My son was with me. When I finished my work there, I left after a gruelling 48-hour journey across Rafah Crossing along with my family, who were coming to the US to visit my brothers. That was the last day Rafah opened this year. More..................

قبل عام كامل من يومنا هذا .. طُفت على منابر الرأي، لأنشر مقالا، أنتقد فيه تنظيم القاعدة في بلاد الرافدين على كثير مما خالف فيه دين الله، وما ارتكبه في حق الأبرياء من الناس، باسم الجهاد وتشويهه عقيدة أهل السنة.. ولكني صدمت بأبواب موصدة .. وقلوب واجفة خائفة راجفة .. مرتعدة .. الكل يخشى أن ينشر في القاعدة كلمة حينها فتنقلب الأمور عليه .. وتتوجه أصابع الاتهام إليه .. بأنه انبطح مع المنبطحين واشترى الدنيا بالدين، وصار عدوا للمجاهدين؟؟

والحقيقة أن كثيرين كانوا ينتقدون القاعدة أيما انتقاد حينها، ولديهم من القناعات أكثر مما لدى كاتب الكلمات!! ولكنهم غارقون في حسابات واعتبارات كثيرة، على رأسها غضب بعض الناس منهم، كون الإعلام الإسلامي المجاهد حينها لم يتجرأ على تمييز صفوفه، ونقد قاعدة العراق علانية .. فمن سيبدأ هذا النقد ويفتح هذا الباب ويسن هذه السنة سيعبد الطريق لمن خلفه .. ويفوز بأجر السنة في قمع البدعة والضلالة، التي تلبست ثوب الجهاد، وسربت عقيدة الخوارج الغلاة في ثوبه الفضفاض، مستغلة غفوة الناس عنها وتعلقهم بمن يزيل عنهم صورة الحاكم بغير أمر الله.

وبعض ممن لم يرد نشر كلمات في قاعدة العراق، غرته صورتها وصدق بعض زعمها والتبس عليه أمرها، فظن أنه إن تجرأ عليها تجرأ آخرون، فهلك .. بينما ظنت مجلة العصر الإلكترونية، أنها إن قالت الحق أنصفت .. ومهدت لمرحلة جديدة من نقد الحركات الجهادية، يتيح للأمة تقويم الزلل وإصلاح الخلل ... وبعد نقاشات كثيرة .. طويلة مستفيضة ..

ونصرة للجهاد الشرعي لا البدعي، وحماية لمشروع المقاومة من الاختراق والإجهاض والتآكل الداخلي، وإحقاقا للحق .. نشرت العصر مقالنا الموسوم "دولة العراق الإسلامية أم دولة القاعدة في بلاد الرافدين"، في 1/1/2007م، أي قبل نحو عام من يومنا هذا!!

ودفعت العصر ثمنا باهظا لفترة من الزمن .. وكاد لها من كاد ..ومكر بها من مكر ... وظن بها السوء أقرب الناس لها .. وعوملت وكأنها باعت وغيرت وأساءت ... وقد صبرت أيما صبر على بلواها، مقتنعة بما قدمت من أدلة توالت في مقالات وأخبار وبيانات عسكرية وسياسية صدرت عن فصائل مجاهدة في العراق ومن علماء ودعاة وقادة جهاد أمراء وصور وأفلام وشهادات..... فشهد الناس بصدق العصر في ما سبقت إليه، وذُكرت كلما تأكدت مصداقية ما نقلته من أخبار الغلاة، وكما قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم "من التمس رضا الله بسخط الناس، رضي الله عنه وأرضى عنه الناس، ومن التمس رضا الناس بسخط الله سخط الله عليه وأسخط عليه الناس"، صححه الالباني.

فليقلب من يشاء اليوم في صحف ومنتديات المسلمين، ويرى كم هي المقالات التي تناولت القاعدة بعد هذا التأريخ؟؟؟ فقد تجرأ الخائفون، وتغيرت قناعات المترددين، وبدأ الكل يتناول الفارق الكبير بين الجهاد الشرعي الذي تقوم به فصائل الجهاد، برغم ما يحتاجه من نقد وتقويم (كما كتب الشيخ حامد العلي في نقد المشروع الجهادي لترشيده)، وبين الجهاد البدعي الذي تقوم به قاعدة الجهاد في بلاد الرافدين، والتي تناولتها فصائل الجهاد بعد هذا التأريخ بالنقد والاتهام، بالخوض في دماء المسلمين والاعتداء على المجاهدين وتشويه عقيدة الجهاد، وفتح أبواب الفتن على الناس حتى ضل منهم من ضل وهلك من هلك .. فأضرت بالجهاد أيما ضرر من حيث كانت تعلم .. أو ربما لا تعلم!!

وكان المهندس فؤاد الفرحان جزءا من هذا القرار الصعب والتضحية الكبيرة، التي قدمتها العصر من أجل الحيلولة دون اختطاف المقاومة!! وقد كان للمجلة فضل في تحرير كثيرين من المغترين بفكر التكفير ونهج الخوارج عنه!! وإبعادهم عن سلوكه ومنهجه .. فلمصلحة من يعتقل فؤاد الفرحان؟؟؟ وهل يريد معتقلوه منه أن يحارب نهج الغلاة والتكفيريين، ويسكت عن المفسدين أو المرتشين أو المتاجرين بكرامة شعوبهم وحرياتهم وحقوقهم؟؟؟

بل هو الموقف الذي دفع الفرحان والعصر لنقد القاعدة، برغم ما خالط ذلك حينها من أمور خطرة ..!! هو ذاته الذي دفعه لما اعتقلتموه من أجله ..ولست أدري ما يكون ...؟؟ ولكن ما عساه يكون؟؟؟ مادام الاعتقال بغير تهمة ولا قرار ولا قانون ولا إعلان ولا نظام شرعي أو حتى عرفي؟؟ ما عساه يكون غير كلمة أزعجت بعض أصحاب المعالي!! فهل تحسبون شجاعا يقف في وجه التكفير وأهله، يهاب دسائس البعض ومكره به؟؟

نصيحة مشفق فاسمعوها ... ما صار التكفير والغلو إلا بتضييق على الناس في دينهم ودنياهم .... وعزلهم عن علمائهم ومصلحيهم ومفكريهم، بحبسهم أو منعهم أو التضييق عليهم ... فما التكفير إلا صنيعة الشيطان وظلم السلطان على حد سواء.

فاتقوا الله في الفرحان، فقد قدم لدينه ثم لوطنه ما يشفع له عند الحاكم والمحكوم.. والله حسيبه.

(BBC) - An Israeli human rights group says the overwhelming majority of Israeli troops suspected of criminal offences against Palestinians are never indicted.

The small number of investigations and even fewer indictments showed Israel's army was ignoring its duty to protect Palestinian civilians, Yesh Din says.

It said soldiers felt they had immunity from investigation and prosecution, which inevitably led to more offences.

An Israeli foreign ministry spokesman said no-one was above the law.

The spokesman, Mark Regev, added that any complaints would be taken seriously by the Israeli legal authorities.

Yesh Din's report said offences included "illegal shooting causing the death and injury of civilians, violence and abuse, intentional damage to property, looting, taking bribes".

Between 2000 and 2007, it says, 239 investigations into the killing and wounding of non-combatant Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces had led to just 16 convictions.

"The low number of investigations opened and the minute number of indictments served reveal the [Israeli Defence Force's] de facto derogation of its duty to protect the Palestinian population against offences committed by soldiers," said Yesh Din legal adviser Michael Sfard.

A recent survey commissioned by the Israeli army said one-in-four soldiers who had served at checkpoints in the West Bank had witnessed or taken part in abuse of Palestinians.

Soldiers quoted anonymously admitted humiliating Palestinians, delaying them without good reason and accepting bribes.

Under international law, the Israeli army is considered an occupying power the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with a duty to protect the civilian population.

Israel captured the territories - home to about four million Palestinians - during the 1967 war.

It pulled troops out of Gaza in 2005 but still keeps a tight grip on its borders and air space.

Every so often, you pick up a newspaper and read something that boggles your mind.

The Washington Post has a story with a big headline that says: “All Iraqi Groups Blame U.S. Invasion for Discord, Study Shows.” The second paragraph starts with the following sentence: “That is good news, according to a military analysis of the results.”

Say what? It’s good news that Iraqis of all sects agree on one thing: that the U.S. military’s invasion and occupation is the number one cause of sectarian warfare in Iraq? It’s good news that despite the sectarian hatred that has ripped Iraq apart, they all agree that America is to blame?

THE CIA chief who ordered the destruction of secret videotapes recording the harsh interrogation of two top Al-Qaeda suspects has indicated he may seek immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying before the House intelligence committee.

Jose Rodriguez, former head of the CIA’s clandestine service, is determined not to become the fall guy in the controversy over the CIA’s use of torture, according to intelligence sources.

It has emerged that at least four White House staff were approached for advice about the tapes, including David Addington, a senior aide to Dick Cheney, the vice-president, but none has admitted to recommending their destruction.

Vincent Cannistraro, former head of counterterrorism at the CIA, said it was impossible for Rodriguez to have acted on his own: “If everybody was against the decision, why in the world would Jose Rodriguez – one of the most cautious men I have ever met – have gone ahead and destroyed them?”

The tapes recorded the interrogations of Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, two suspected Al-Qaeda leaders, over hundreds of hours while they were held in secret “ghost” prisons. According to testimony from a former CIA officer, Zubaydah was subjected to waterboarding, a form of torture that simulates drowning, and “broke” after 35 seconds. He is believed to have been interrogated in Thailand. The tapes were destroyed in 2005. Both men are now held in Guantanamo Bay.

Under the law, the CIA could violate international law and treaties, as long as they were following orders.

For some political reasons, American media started to talk about torture, stories such as (Inside the CIA’s notorious "black sites"), are just recently reported while we reported this long time ago.

Take this story for example, which was reported on Al-Hayat five days ago, a Saudi man wrote a letter to his wife from Guantanamo, she tells the story:

My husband went to Afghanistan with our three children, he was interested in volunteering for charity work, but he was sold to the Northern Alliances forces and later to the Americans.

They stepped with their military shoes on my back and my head, they insulted my religion, my family and my nationality.

They left my naked for days and they sexually abused me.

The insults, humiliations and the sexual abuse against him are the same stories of the two Sudanese men [Hassan and Adam] recently released [English link and video]:

They threw me down on the ground and released the dogs to bite my body from every place, then they stripped me naked and started to search me even in my anus, after that they tortured me and wasn’t allowed to sleep for three days.

99% of the detainees were tried in absentia, they didn’t even bother to go to their trial because they were convinced that the whole trial was written in advance.

What actually happened yesterday?

Basra was officially handed over to the Iraqi government, the last of the four provinces under British control since the invasion of 2003.

How significant is that?

The handover was another step in the disengagement of the UK from Iraq. The actual occasion, however, was largely symbolic. The important move took place in September when British forces pulled out of their last base in Basra city, Saddam's old palace. Nothing has changed in the last three months. A gradual pull-back of forces is already under way. The remaining troops are now based at Basra airport, where they will stay while further reductions take place.

What role will the British force play in the future?

There are about 4,500 British troops left in Basra. This will be reduced to around 2,500 by the spring. Their role now is the training of Iraqi forces who have taken over security in southern Iraq. The UK authorities also insist, however, that the contingent which is left is adequate to go back into Basra and take further military action in an emergency, if asked to do so by the Iraqi government. This is disputed by critics, including the House of Commons defence committee, which holds that 2,500 is of insufficient strength to carry out any effective combat duties.

Who is in charge of security in Basra now?

The Iraqi army and the Iraqi police. The British military and diplomats have put an enormous amount of faith in the Iraqi army and police commanders, General Mohan al-Furayji and General Jalil Khalaf, who points out, however, that the Shia militias in Basra are actually better armed than their forces.

How safe is Basra now?

Gordon Brown told the House of Commons that violence has fallen in Basra by 90 per cent. What has actually happened is that it is violence against British troops which has fallen. That is mainly because, with the withdrawal from Basra Palace, the UK presence is little more than incidental in Basra for the Shia militias who are concentrating on getting hold of the spoils of war, especially the region's oil wealth.

What about women and minority communities?

In Basra, Sunnis and Christians have been subjected to sectarian cleansing by the Shia militias. Women said to have behaved in an "irreligious" way were targeted in recent months, and, according to General Jalil Khalaf, more than 40 women have been murdered.
