Why Do Western Journalists Give Israel a Free Pass?Saturday, March 29 2008
BBSNews 2008-03-29 -- By Stuart Littlewood. The abysmal performance of western TV and radio interviewers when dealing with issues surrounding Israel - that 'Rogue Regime' or 'Zionist Entity', as many now call it - is not only embarrassing but a blot on the escutcheon of journalism. Even the most fearsome inquisitors purr like a *censored*cat. Their rottweiler instincts evaporate, their investigative skills desert them, objectivity takes a nosedive. Penetrating questions are seldom asked, lies go unchallenged. Any Israeli spokesperson or cheerleader is guaranteed an easy ride. Have the nation's truth-seekers fallen under some wicked Zionist spell? Are their researchers on strike? Did somebody nobble the programme editors? While we wait with mounting frustration for our broadcasters to get their act together, here are 20 simple questions the BBC and others seem anxious not to ask...... On Rockets and Sieges--MORE-- ZIONISM IS THE CAUSE OF RISING ISLAMOPHOBIA
March 29, 2008 at 6:31 pm (DesertPeace Editorial, Intolerance, Islamophobia, zionism)

“I
want to tell you something very clear: Don’t worry about American
pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the
Americans know it.”
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon “Our
race is the Master Race. We are divine gods on this planet. We are as
different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact,
compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at
best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to
rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our
leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us
as our slaves.” “One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail.” The above
are just three examples reflecting the attitudes of zionism towards the
non Jewish world, Arabs in particular. For a country that depends on
outside help for survival, is this not the ultimate in ‘chutzpah’?
For years
Israel has been guilty of ’false flag violence’, the act of of
committing a crime and first blaming it on someone else, and then
attacking that someone else. We have seen this demonstrated on numerous
occasions in the West Bank, in Gaza and in Lebanon. For some reason,
the West always finds Israel to be right. In the few odd cases when
Israel is found guilty, nothing is done. The support continues to pour
in, the crimes are committed over and over again.
Could the
attitudes above be a result of ‘ziophobia’? Is the world actually
afraid of Israel? Is the world that afraid to be labeled anti Semitic
by the likes of Foxman and his ‘Kosher Nostra’, or any other group
affiliated to AIPAC?
Do the
above not realise that this constant blind support and ‘go ahead’ given
to Israel is probably the main contributing factor to the growth of
Islamophobia. Cartoonists in Denmark, film makers in Holland continue
to anger the Islamic communities throughout the world with their works.
Islam does not have the ‘Lobby’ that zionism has. Islam does not have
supporters throughout the world that zionism has…. in effect it is
zionism itself that is responsible for the hatred we see towards
Islam. They accomplish this by using their tactic of ’false flag
violence’.
How long will the world stand for
this? How long will the world continue to let the zionist leadership
literally spit in their faces as seen in the above quotes? http://desertpeace.wordpress.com/2008/03/29/zionism-is-the-cause-of-rising-islamophobia/ Obama’s Crooked Gameby Glen Ford / March 28th, 2008 Barack Obama thinks he’s a magician. Magicians have always been very popular, so it’s no mystery that millions of people are fascinated by the man, and especially that millions of African Americans are desperate to see him pull off the biggest trick of all – become president of the thoroughly racist United States of America. Obama is smart, but his basic game plan is quite simple. Knowing
full well the group most hostile to Black progress in the U.S. has
always been white males, he aims to neutralize much of this demographic
by assuring them an Obama presidency would be aggressively
race-neutral. In practice, that means Obama ascribes all racial
offenses to the past, where the only guilty white people are dead. The
accumulated white wealth and privilege that is the result of hundreds
of years of racist exploitation also was due to actions (crimes) of
people now mostly dead. Obama forgives the dead racists, and has never
expressed any intention of readjusting the ten to fifteen to one
disparity in median white to Black household income. Yes, Obama knows
perfectly well that wealth disparity, if not aggressively dealt with as
a racial problem, will take centuries – if ever – to disappear. But
Obama accepts the racial status quo as a fait accompli that can only be
altered by methods that do not penalize living white people who
benefited from their dead ancestors’ crimes. In practice, this means
Obama would leave American race relationships frozen in time. More.............. March 29 Classified Memo Reveals Iraqi Prisoners as “Starving”by Jason Leopold / March 28th, 2008 A classified memo written by a top military official stationed in Western Iraq reveals that a prison in downtown Fallujah is so overcrowded and dirty that it does not even meet basic “minimal levels of hygiene for human beings.” “The conditions in these jails are so bad that I think we need to do the right thing in terms of caring for the prisoners even with our own dollars, or release them,” says the memo, written late last month by Maj. Gen. John Kelly, commander of U.S forces in western Iraq. The classified document, leaked to the website Wikileaks, a website where whistleblowers can “reveal unethical behavior in their governments and corporations,” was authenticated by the organization. The memo contains other shocking revelations about conditions at the jail, including a massive shortage of food and water. The prison is said to be run by Iraqi officials. US Marines oversee operation of the facility. “I found the conditions there to be exactly (unbelivable [sic] over
crowding, total lack of anything approaching even minimal levels of
hygiene for human beings, no food, little water, no ventilation) to
those described in the recent (18 February) FOX news artickle [sic] by

Does Shariah mean the rule of law?Published: March 16, 2008 Last month, Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury, gave a nuanced, scholarly lecture in London about whether the British legal system should allow non-Christian courts to decide certain matters of family law. Britain has no constitutional separation of church and state. The archbishop noted that "the law of the Church of England is the law of the land" there; indeed, ecclesiastical courts that once handled marriage and divorce are still integrated into the British legal system, deciding matters of church property and doctrine. His tentative suggestion was that, subject to the agreement of all parties and the strict requirement of protecting equal rights for women, it might be a good idea to consider allowing Islamic and Orthodox Jewish courts to handle marriage and divorce. Then all hell broke
loose. From politicians across the spectrum to senior church figures
and the ubiquitous British tabloids came calls for the leader of the
world's second largest Christian denomination to issue a retraction or
even resign. Williams has spent the last couple of years trying to hold
together the global Anglican Communion in the face of continuing
controversies about ordaining gay priests and recognizing same-sex
marriages. Yet little in that contentious battle subjected him to the
kind of outcry that his reference to religious courts unleashed.
Needless to say, the outrage was not occasioned by Williams's mention
of Orthodox Jewish law. For the purposes of public discussion, it was
the word "Shariah" that was radioactive. More.............. The naive armchair warriors are fighting a delusional warCalls for the west to use force to restore its values in the face of radical Islam reveal a profound detachment from reality

The French philosopher Michel Foucault notes that in all societies discourse is controlled - imperceptibly constrained, perhaps, but constrained nonetheless. We are not free to say exactly what we like. The norms set by institutions, convention and our need to keep within the boundaries of accepted behaviour and thought limit what may be touched upon. The Archbishop of Canterbury experienced the backlash from stepping outside these conventions when he spoke about aspects of Islamic law that might be imported into British life. Once, a man was held to be mad if he
strayed from this discourse - even if his utterings were credited with
revealing some hidden truth. Today, he is called "naive", or accused of
having gone "native". Recently, the Royal United Services Institute
(Rusi) marshalled former senior military and intelligence experts in
order to assert such limits to expression by warning us that
"deference" to multiculturalism was undermining the fight against
Islamic "extremism" and threatening security. More................ March 25 The cost of war in plain English
The war in Iraq has now cost Americans countless dollars and over 4,000 American lives. I say over 4,000 because the death toll put out by the Bush administration does not include all the American contractors that have died in the war. There are studies that estimate the long-term costs as being anywhere from one to six trillion dollars, and the general consensus now -- even among the most optimistic Bush Believers -- is that the least we will end up spending in Iraq will be more than one trillion dollars. That's if we start pulling troops out tomorrow. Already, not counting such expenses as continued health care for wounded veterans, replacing worn-out equipment, or the increase in oil prices from $30 per barrel in 2003 to $111 per barrel in 2008, the actual appropriations for the Iraq war are currently more than $513 billion. Leaving all future costs aside, and not counting those that have already accrued but have been hidden away in secret intelligence budgets and executive side-deals, let's talk about the $500 billion that is on the books, the undeniable dollars that can't be covered up or disputed by even the most thirsty of Bushie Kool-Aid drinkers. Most normal folks like you and me really don't comprehend just how much money $500 billion is. When we hear experts tell us that the money we have spent in Iraq would be enough to ensure healthcare for millions of Americans, we get mad and shake our heads at the stupidity of preemptive war with a country that never posed a serious, credible threat to America. But we still don't fully understand the massiveness of such a huge amount of cash. I will attempt to put it in terms that don't require an advanced degree in economics to get a clear grasp on just how much dough we have wasted on this ill-advised foray into nation-building by force of arms. Iraq has a population of about 27 million people. If
all 27 million Iraqis were to each rob an American bank of $19,000--
that would add up to $513 billion. More................. Obama's Minister "Hates America" But When My Father Said the Same Sort of Things He Became a Hero To The Republicansby Frank Schaeffer When Senator Obama's preacher thundered about racism and injustice Obama suffered smear-by-association. But when my late father--Religious Right leader Francis Schaeffer--denounced America and even called for the violent overthrow of the US government, he was invited to lunch with presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush, Sr. Every
Sunday thousands of right wing white preachers (following in my
father's footsteps) rail against America's sins from tens of thousands
of pulpits. They tell us that America is complicit in the "murder of
the unborn," has become "Sodom" by coddling gays, and that our public
schools are sinful places full of evolutionists and sex educators
hell-bent on corrupting children. They say, as my dad often did, that
we are, "under the judgment of God." They call America evil and warn of
immanent destruction. Obama's minister's shouted "controversial"
comments were very much like things pastors on the right say too. Dad and I were amongst the founders of the Religious right. In the 1970s and 1980s, while Dad and I crisscrossed America denouncing our nation's sins instead of getting in trouble we became darlings of the Republican Party. (This was while I was my father's sidekick before I dropped out of the evangelical movement altogether.) We were rewarded for our "stand" by people such as Congressman Jack Kemp, the Fords, Reagan and the Bush family. The top Republican leadership depended on preachers and agitators like us to energize their rank and file. No one called us un-American. Consider a few passages from my father's immensely influential America-bashing book A Christian Manifesto. It sailed under the radar of the major media who, back when it was published in 1980, were not paying particular attention to best-selling religious books. Nevertheless it sold more than a million copies. More............ Easter: Christian or Pagan?Contrary to popular belief, Easter does not represent the "historical" crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In reality, the gospel tale reflects the annual "crossification" of the sun through the vernal equinox (Spring), at which time the sun is "resurrected," as the day begins to become longer than the night. Rather than being a "Christian" holiday, Easter celebrations date back into remotest antiquity and are found around the world, as the blossoming of spring did not escape the notice of the ancients, who revered this life-renewing time of the year, when winter had passed and the sun was "born again." The "Pagan" Easter is also the Passover, and Jesus Christ represents not only the sun but also the Passover Lamb ritually sacrificed every year by a number of cultures, including the Egyptians, possibly as early as 4,000 years ago and continuing to this day in some places. Easter is "Pessach" in Hebrew, "Pascha" in Greek, "Pachons" in Latin and "Pa-Khonsu" in Egyptian, "Khonsu" being an epithet for the sun god Horus. In Anglo-Saxon, Easter or Eostre is goddess of the dawn, corresponding to Ishtar, Astarte, Astoreth and Isis. The word "Easter" shares the same root with "east" and "eastern," the direction of the rising sun. The principal Mexican solar festival was held at the
vernal equinox, i.e., Easter, when sacrifices were made to sustain the
sun. In India, the vernal equinox festival is called "Holi" and is
especially sacred to the god Krishna. The Syrian sun and fertility god
Attis
was annually hung on a tree, dying and rising on March 24th and 25th,
an "Easter celebration" that occurred at Rome as well. The March dates
were
later applied to the Passion and Resurrection of Christ:
"Thus," says Sir Frazer, "the tradition which placed the death of
Christ on the
twenty-fifth of March was ancient and deeply rooted. It is all the more
remarkable because astronomical considerations prove that it can have
had
no historical foundation…." This "coincidence" between the deaths and
resurrections of Christ
and the older Attis was not lost on early
Christians, whom it distressed and caused to use the "devil got there
first" excuse for the motif's presence in pre-Christian paganism. More........... The Truth About Fusion Centers Will Blow Your Mind
Sunday, 23 March 2008
Imagine that somewhere close to your local community there exists a secret computer center. Equipped with powerful mainframe computers and the database integrating powers of XML, this government-funded facility gathers data from thousands of sources including local, state and federal law enforcement, social welfare agencies, hospitals, banks, telephone companies, ISPs, computer search engines, private security companies, schools--essentially an endless list. With its massive computing power, this secret outpost is able to search and sift this data using vaguely defined criteria like "suspicious activity" in order to identify individuals for even closer scrutiny. Finally, this computer center dispenses the results of its analyses to local, state and federal law enforcement and to the military so that they can take action against the citizens tagged as threats. Such a scenario is no longer the product of a paranoid, over-stimulated imagination. It is a reality called "fusion centers," forty of which have been established throughout the United States. More............. THE GREENING OF PALESTINE
March 23, 2008 at 8:23 am (DesertPeace Editorial, Ethnic Cleansing, History, Israel, Nakba, Palestine, zionism)
There is a
centuries old expression that goes “you can’t see the forest for the
trees.” It is defined as “to focus only on small details and fail to
understand larger plans or principles.” Some people “fail to see the
trees for the forest…”
Israel has
vast areas of green today where it was totally barren 60 years ago.
Billions of dollars have poured into the coffers of the Jewish National Fund
to plant forests and ‘reclaim the land’…. ‘reclaim’ being the key word.
The land was literally stolen from the Palestinian people.
It is often
heard in zionist circles that ‘Israel is truly a miracle’…. ‘they made
the desert bloom.’ Yes it is, and yes they did. But, without getting
too gory, they were able to do it literally by using the bodies of
murdered Palestinians as fertilizer.
Artifacts and
remains from ancient Hebrew civilisations are constantly being
unearthed throughout Israel. Some of these finds date back thousands of
years, to the time of the First Temple. This is undoubtedly proof that the Hebrews did inhabit this area at one time. More......... |
