The Israeli state is trying desperately to foreclose all exceptions to its unequivocally racist land laws, writes Jonathan Cook in Nazareth

Israel's parliament last week approved by an overwhelming majority the first reading of a bill to ensure that much of the country's inhabited land remains accessible to Jewish citizens only -- a move described by one leading local newspaper as turning Israel into a "racist Jewish state".

The private member's bill, called the Jewish National Fund Law, has received cross-party support. The first reading was approved by 64 legislators, with 16 -- most of them Arab MKs -- opposed. Supporters ranged from former premier Binyamin Netanyahu, leader of the Likud Party, to Ami Ayalon, a recent challenger to head the Labour Party.

The legislation is designed to nullify the threat posed by a Supreme Court judgment, reached in 2000, that potentially opens the door to thousands of Arab families leaving the tightly controlled areas assigned to them and choosing where they live. Currently Arab citizens, who comprise a fifth of the population, are barred from buying homes in most of the country.

The move is the latest in a series of battles since Israel's establishment in 1948 to ensure exclusive Jewish control of land through an international Zionist organisation known as the Jewish National Fund (JNF). By the time of Israel's founding, the JNF had bought about six per cent of historic Palestine for Jewish settlement. Rather than demanding that these territories be handed over by the JNF, the new state authorities assigned the organisation a special, quasi-governmental status. The JNF was also given a significant share of the lands and property confiscated from hundreds of thousands of Palestinians expelled during the 1948 War.            More.........

On July 16, I attended Christians United for Israel's annual Washington-Israel Summit. Founded by San Antonio-based megachurch pastor John Hagee, CUFI has added the grassroots muscle of the Christian right to the already potent Israel lobby. Hagee and his minions have forged close ties with the Bush White House and members of Congress from Sen. Joseph Lieberman to Sen. John McCain. In its call for a unilateral military attack on Iran and the expansion of Israeli territory, CUFI has found unwavering encouragement from traditional pro-Israel groups like AIPAC and elements of the Israeli government.

But CUFI has an ulterior agenda: its support for Israel derives from the belief of Hagee and his flock that Jesus will return to Jerusalem after the battle of Armageddon and cleanse the earth of evil. In the end, all the non-believers - Jews, Muslims, Hindus, mainline Christians, etc. - must convert or suffer the torture of eternal damnation. Over a dozen CUFI members eagerly revealed to me their excitement at the prospect of Armageddon occurring tomorrow. Among the rapture ready was Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. None of this seemed to matter to Lieberman, who delivered a long sermon hailing Hagee as nothing less than a modern-day Moses. Lieberman went on to describe Hagee's flock as "even greater than the multitude Moses commanded."          More........

One of the leaders of demonstrations in Gaza calling for the release of the BBC reporter Alan Johnston was a Palestinian news cameraman, Imad Ghanem. On 5 July, he was shot by Israeli soldiers as he filmed them invading Gaza. A Reuters video shows bullets hitting his body as he lay on the ground. An ambulance trying to reach him was also attacked. The Israelis described him as a "legitimate target." The International Federation of Journalists called the shooting "a vicious and brutal example of deliberate targeting of a journalist." At the age of 21, he has had both legs amputated.

Dr. David Halpin, a British trauma surgeon who works with Palestinian children, emailed the BBC's Middle East editor, Jeremy Bowen. "The BBC should report the alleged details about the shooting," he wrote. "It should honor Alan [Johnston] as a journalist by reporting the facts, uncomfortable as they might be to Israel."

He received no reply.

The atrocity was reported in two sentences on the BBC online. Along with 11 Palestinian civilians killed by the Israelis on the same day, Alan Johnston's now legless champion slipped into what George Orwell in Nineteen Eighty-Four called the memory hole. (It was Winston Smith's job at the Ministry of Truth to make disappear all facts embarrassing to Big Brother.)

While Alan Johnston was being held, I was asked by the BBC World Service if I would say a few words of support for him. I readily agreed, and suggested I also mention the thousands of Palestinians abducted and held hostage. The answer was a polite no; and all the other hostages remained in the memory hole. Or, as Harold Pinter wrote of such unmentionables: "It never happened. Nothing ever happened... It didn't matter. It was of no interest."

The media wailing over the BBC's royal photo-shoot fiasco and assorted misdemeanors provide the perfect straw man. They complement a self-serving BBC internal inquiry into news bias, which dutifully supplied the right-wing Daily Mail with hoary grist that the corporation is a left-wing plot. Such shenanigans would be funny were it not for the true story behind the facade of elite propaganda that presents humanity as useful or expendable, worthy or unworthy, and the Middle East as the Anglo-American crime that never happened, didn't matter, was of no interest.

Irving Lewis "Scooter" Libby (Leibowitz) has been a long-serving intelligence agent for Israel's Mossad, according to a veteran CIA "official cover" officer who spoke to the Wayne Madsen Report on deep background. The CIA's Clandestine Service has, over the years, gathered a tremendous amount of intelligence on Libby's activities on behalf of Mossad.

Libby served as the lawyer for Switzerland- based American fugitive financier Marc Rich, aka Mark David Reich, who is also known to be an Israeli intelligence asset and someone Israel relies upon for missions that demand "plausible deniability" on the part of the Mossad. Rich heads up a worldwide empire of dummy corporations, foundations, and numbered bank accounts that have been involved in sanctions busting and weapons smuggling. In 1983, the then-U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York urged jail time for Rich and his partner Pincus Green for racketeering. The name of that U.S. Attorney is Rudolph Giuliani. Giuliani, who is now running for president, praised Bush's decision to commute Libby's jail sentence. After Clinton 's pardon of Rich, Giuliani said he was "shocked." Paul Klebnikov, the Moscow editor for Forbes' Russian edition, wrote about the connections of Rich to Russian gangsters like Boris Berezovsky, a business partner of Neil Bush, in his book "Godfather of the Kremlin." The proposal adopted by the University and Colleges Union congress to discuss whether it should boycott Israeli academic institutions has caused a furore. The House of Lords set aside time for a full debate, and the British government dispatched a minister to reassure its Israeli counterparts. Whole page advertisements rapidly appeared in national newspapers condemning the decision. The great and the good were mobilised. Irrational, one sided, anti-semitic, and counterproductive were some of the accusations levelled against us for deciding to debate.

As the motion's mover, I have been subjected to sustained vilification. Eminent American professors, and supporters of Israel, have threatened to bankrupt and to destroy the careers of any union members who support a boycott. The conflation of a boycott proposal and a proposal to debate the appropriateness of a boycott clearly serves the purpose of those who wish to deflect attention from the substantive issue: the plight of people suffering under occupation.      More..........

Zeinab Abu Garsh from Rafah in Gaza, stranded on the Gaza Egypt border for 40 days, sits in front of her luggage in the Egyptian frontier town of Rafah. Occupied Jerusalem: "Please destroy the wall and let me get through to see my children before I die. I can't stand it." These were the last words of Sana' Shanan, a 27-year-old woman from the Jabalyah camp who has been stuck at the Rafah passage, which has been closed for almost two months. Her 35-year-old husband, Salim, told Gulf News that he called to check on her health and heard her desperation. He recounted her words, "Nobody cares about the Palestinians' suffering ... nobody can live for 38 days under the burning sun." She asked God to help her and the many other sick people who are threatened by death. Salim who was trying to suppress his tears added that "Sana' left me and three children: the eldest Jamal Salim Shalhah is four, Mohammad is three and the youngest is six months old and never stops crying for his mother who has not been able to give him her love." Sana' had fallen sick with hepatocirrhosis (a chronic disease due to degeneration of the liver cells) and had travelled to Cairo for treatment. After her successful treatment, she headed back to the Rafah passage to return home, but instead she found herself waiting for her death. She is one of more than 28 Palestinians who have died at the Rafah passage since its closure after Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip. Since that day, the number of Palestinians stuck at the Rafah passage and Al Arish airport has reached more than 12,000. They are living a tragedy, especially after spending all their money on motels and are now resorting to living on the streets and in gardens. They have sold their personal belongings from watches to clothes. A number of them have left to Cairo seeking relief, but more than six thousand still remain stuck. Most of those people are women, children and the elderly. The situation has led to the deterioration of health conditions for some people who have chronic diseases since they are not provided with medicine and money. They have also not received any humanitarian aid from the government except for $100 (about Dh367) for each family from the resigned government of Hamas. Humanitarian organisations have warned that the situation is quickly deteriorating and if a solution is not found or if the Palestinians are not transferred to the Gaza Strip or to Cairo, then the mortality rate will quickly increase.

This is an estimate by Thomas Stauffer, a consulting economist in Washington. For decades, his analyses of the Middle East scene have made him a frequent thorn in the side of the Israel lobby.

For the first time in many years, Mr. Stauffer has tallied the total cost to the US of its backing of Israel in its drawn-out, violent dispute with the Palestinians. So far, he figures, the bill adds up to more than twice the cost of the Vietnam War.And now Israel wants more. In a meeting at the White House late last month, Israeli officials made a pitch for $4 billion in additional military aid to defray the rising costs of dealing with the intifada and suicide bombings. They also asked for more than $8 billion in loan guarantees to help the country's recession-bound economy.                  More.........

[Jerusalem, July 22, 2007] I had no clue when I gave 'birth' to my website, exactly two years ago to this day, what I was really doing, but, after my first of five journeys to Israel Palestine and listening to many of the people who live here and seeing with my own eyes the facts on the ground and feeling in my own gut a little of what life is like under occupation, I got VERY PISSED OFF and had to DO SOMETHING!

My government and mainstream media do NOT tell the truth and the spin they spin makes me want to puke. Not all members of the internationally recognized transparent democratically elected members of Hamas are terrorists and democracy cannot be spread through the barrel of a gun.

Criticizing the Israeli government is not anti-Semitic, just as dissenting from the neo-con ideology is not unpatriotic; in fact it is much more in line with our founding fathers;

استهل د. النجار محاضرته بالقول : "أننا في مجال العقيدة مطالبون بالإيمان بالله وحواسنا لا تدركه ، مطالبون بالإيمان بالملائكة ولا توجد لدينا وسيلة مادية تثبت وجودهم من عدم وجودهم ، مطالبون بالإيمان بالجن ونحن لا نراه وبالروح وهي من غيب الله ، " ويسئلونك عن الروح قل الروح من أمر ربي" .

فنحن مطالبون بالإيمان بحتمية البحث وهو أن يعاد جمع جسد الإنسان بعد أن يعجن الكون كله ومطالبون بالإيمان بأن الله قادر على كل شيء أن يجمع ذرات جسد الإنسان حتى يشهد عليه جلده وسمعه وبصره و أيديه و أرجله .

والبعث من ركائز الإيمان إذا لم يؤمن الإنسان بالبعث لا يكون عنده ذرة من الإيمان ، مطالبون بالإيمان بالحشر والعرض الأكبر على الله بالميزان بالخلود في الحياة الباقية إما في الجنة أما في النار .

فهذه كلها أمور غيبية فالعقيدة قائمة على الغيب المطلق الذي لا سبيل للإنسان في الوصول إليه إلا عن طريق وحى السماء , يقول الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم " صلوا كما رأيتموني أصلى " و "خذوا عني مناسككم" صدق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فللمسلم أن يبتدع في أمور الدنيا ما شاء و إذا كان ابتداعه مفيدا للبشرية نافعا للإنسانية معمرا للأرض فـهو مأجور على ذلك لكن يبتدع في أمر الدين فهذا مرفوض كليا .

فقدوا كثيرا بالبعد عن الدين

وأسرد : لا يمكن للإنسان أن يضع دستورا أخلاقيا لنفسه , فإذا نظرنا إلى الغرب فنجدهم بإسم الحرية فقدوا كثير من مكارم الأخلاق , فتحلل الغرب تحللا كامل لأنه إستخدام الحرية بغير ضوابط ربانية و العقلاء في الغرب الآن يقولون أن الغرب تآكل من داخله لأنه إستخدم الحرية بغير ضوابط , فالغرب تقدم تقدما علميا مذهلا ولكنهم نسوا الدين والآخرة وركزوا على الماديات فتقدموا والله من عدله انه جعل أن من يجتهد له نصيب فغير المسلمين تقدموا تقدم مذهلا ولكن استخدموا هذا العلم في الإفساد ، ماذا قدم العلم للإنسان إفساد في القيم خراب في الأخلاق حروب ودماء تسيل في كل مكان ..... إلخ ، مع احترامنا لما قدموا من تقدم وإنجاز علمي ولكن بدون دين أفسدوا هذا التقدم .

كما أشار إلى أن الغرب يكرهنا لأنه لا يؤمن بأن القرآن وحي سماوي ولا يؤمن بنبوية محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم) .

الآيات الكونية وعظمة الخالق

وعن الأيات الكونية بالقرأن قال : في سنة رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) وفي القرآن الكريم أكثر من مائة ألف آية قرآنية صريحة تتحدث عن بعض ظواهر هذا الكون هذه الإشارات العلمية لم تنزل من قبل الإخبار العلمي المباشر .

ولكن جاءت كلها في مقام الإستدلال على طلاقة القدرة الإلهية في ابداع الله للخلق تشهد للخالق بالألوهية . و الواحدانية المطلقة فقد خلق الله كل شيء في زوجية حتى يبقى الله سبحانه وتعالى منفردا بالوحدانية هو الواحد الأحد لا شريك له ملكه وهو منزه عن جميع صفات الخلق فلابد أن يكون معايير للجميع من صفات خلقه .
وتدل هذه الإشارات على أن الله الذي خلق قادر على إفناء خلقه و إعادة بحث كل الخلق من جديد .
وأسرد : كانت قضية البعث هي قضية مثارة عبر التاريخ وهى حجة المغايرين و المكابرين
وهذه الآيات مع أنها ليست في صلب رسالة القرآن الكريم إلا أنها رسالة لأهل عصرنا .

فالآيات التي تتعلق بركائز الدين جاءت آيات محكمة يفهمها الجميع وبأوامر واضحة غير قابلة للاختلاف و لا احتمال مغاير . وهذه الآيات الكونية تحتاج لجهداَ لأن الله يعلم أن العقل البشري لا يستطيع استيعاب الأشياء دفعة واحدة فلابد من الملاحظة و التجربة , وكلما زادت رؤية الإنسان للكون تعرف عليه أكثر حيث يتسارع العلم بمعدلات تراكمية وسريعة .

تحتاج معايير خاصة لمن يتصدى لها
وأضاف : الإشارات الكونية في القرآن الكريم تحتاج إلى مجاهده في الفهم فلابد أن يبرز من أهل كل عصر من يتأهل للتعرف لكتاب الله باللغة العربية وقواعدها , فهم للأسباب النزول , فهم للناسخ والمنسوخ , فهم للمأثور من فقه الرسول الكريم ، وجهود المفسرين السابقين ثم يضاف البعد العلمي حتى تفهم دلالة هذه الآية فهما صحيحا ومن أعظم جوانب الإعجاز في كتاب الله أن الآية الكريمة تأتى بألفاظ محددة يفهم منها أهل كل عصر معنى من المعاني وتظل هذه المعرفة تتسع باستمرار مع اتساع دائرة المعرفة الإنسانية في تكامل لا يعرف التضاد .

بنفس الفكرة نجد إشارات تاريخية لم تخدم خدمة كافية , عرض القرآن الكريم لتاريخ أمم سابقة معجز ، خطاب القرآن للنفس الإنسانية معجز ، والقضايا الأخلاقية و التربوية الاقتصادية نبض القرآن الكريم كل هذا يعكس بقاء القرآن الكريم على ألف أربعمائة سنة أو يزيد في نفس لغة وحيه دون أن يضاف أو يخصم منه حرف واحد من معجز ، كل هذه القضايا لا بد لنا من إبرازها اليوم أكثر من أي وقت مضى فالعالم تحول إلى قرية كبيرة تتسارع وسائل الاتصال والمواصلات وتلتقي الحضارات بها و الديانات و المعتقدات , واستطرد: يتصارع الناس, مع العلم أن الأصل في الحضارات ليس الصراع ولكن التكامل فالأصل أن التراث البشري ثروة لكل البشر فعلمنا الله أن لنا أصلا واحد " الذي خلقكم من اصل واحد " صدق الله العظيم نحن نؤمن بالأخوة الإنسانية نؤمن بوحدة رسالة السماء لكن غيرنا فكره قائم على التحدي و الصراع وحب التملك و الهيمنة والاستعمار وتاريخهم يعترف بذلك .

التفسير له ضوابط

وأضاف: نحن في ذلك لنا ضوابط كثيرة لان الذي يدخل هذا المجال بغير ضوابط يضر أكثر مما ينفع , ومن هذه الضوابط أن لا يوظف في تفسير الآية القرآنية إلا الحقيقة العلمية القاطعة التي حسمها العلم و إذا وصل العلم إلى مقام الحقيقة أو القانون لا يرتد على ذاته قد يتوسع قد يضاف إليه لكنه لا ينقلب على ذاته وسيدنا محمد (رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ) يقول الحكمة ضالة المؤمنين فإن وجدها المسلم فإنه أولى الناس بها .

والعلم لم يصل للحقيقة في كل أمر من الأمور ولا شيء في أن أوظف النظرية السائدة ويبقى تفسيري مرحلي حتى يصل إلى نتيجة دقيقة فينفى تفسيري أو يغيره وهذا لا يسئ للقرآن الكريم أبدا لأن الخطأ يعود على المفسر ولا يمس كتاب الله أبدا وعندما أفهم الآية القرآنية جيدا أستطيع إثبات سبق القرآن الكريم , وهذا السبق أسميه الإعجاز العلمي للقرآن الكريم لم يكن ممكنا لأحد من الخلق وزمن الوحي أو بعده أن يصل لهذه الحقيقة أبدا , ومن أهم هذه الضوابط أن يوظف تفسير الآيات القرآنية في حقيقة علمية قاطعة ثابتة وذلك إلا في حالة واحدة وهي حالة الآيات المتعلقة بالخلق و الإفناء و البعث لكونها غيبية لم يدركها أي منها .

ولكن القرآن كثيرا يحضنا على التفكير في قضية الخلق فندرك من ذلك أن الخلق قضية غيبية ورغم ذلك أن الله أبقى لنا فيما حولنا أدلة واضحة مادية يستطيع الإنسان بحسه المحدود أن يصل إلى فهمها ولكن إذا وصل لهذا الفهم وبدء بوضع النظريات يتأثر بخلفيتة الفكرية هل هو مؤمن أم كافر جاد أم هازل كل هذه القيم تتحكم في صناعة علمية أو فكرية فتعدد النظريات في قصة الخلق ويبقى للمسلم فقط نور من الله تعالى يستطيع أن يرتقى بإحدى هذه النظريات إلى مقام الحقيقة لمجرد وجود إشارة لها في كتاب الله أو سنة نبيه (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) .

مجرد إشارات

واستطرد: ليس من المنطق أن يكون كل شيء في القرآن لو كان هكذا لكان القرآن الكريم مجلدات لا يستطيع الإنسان طوال حياته أن يقرأه فضلا عن حفظه , ففيه كل شيء من أمر الدين لكن باقي القضايا جاءت نماذج : الآيات الكونية مثلا نماذج رسائل السابقين نماذج فليس بالضرورة أن أجد بالقرآن كل قضية كونية .

رسالة المسلم اليوم

وأوضح: الخدمة الرئيسية التي يستطيع المسلم أن يقدمها للإسلام في عصرنا هذا هى خدمة فهم الآيات الكونية في كتاب الله وفي سنة نبيه (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) وتقديم هذا الفهم للناس كافة باللغة التي يفهمونها ليثبت المسلم على إسلامه في زمن الفتنة ويدعو غير المسلم للحق الوحيد الموجود بين أيدي الناس اليوم .

وأضاف : قد وجدت أن تقديم هذا الدين بأرق أسلوب ممكن و بأفضل أسلوب ممكن للبشرية وتقديم الآيات الكونية في كتاب الله وسنة رسوله (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) يعد من أقرب الوسائل لإقناع غير المسلم بالإسلام .
نحن بحاجة إلى مسلمين يفهمون معنى الدين ويعرفون رسالة الإنسان في الحياة, فنحن تخلينا عن كل ذلك نحن أمة واحدة فما بين المسلمين من عوامل التوحد أكثر من ما بين الوحدة الأوروبية فهم توحدوا ونحن أمة التوحيد تمزقنا إلى أكثر من دولة و أقيمت بينها حدود يختلف عليها الناس .
